Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD's) Amphibious Assault Ship's Mission Statement

The Wasp Class LHD's mission is to transport almost the full strength of a
United States Marine Corps Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and land
them in hostile territory via landing craft or helicopters.

Air support is provided via on board AV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft, F-35B
Lightning II strike-fighters, and multiple ASW or attack helicopters
depending on the mission.

The LHDs can support amphibious landings in two forms:

* By landing craft (they have a well deck)
* By helicopter
